When things don't work: blank-space roadblocks and how to clear them

Empty list, greyed-out button, screen refused, no test found: the roadblocks met when setting up a blank space, and the fix for each one.

In short. On a blank space, almost every roadblock has the same cause: a previous step has not been done. An empty drop-down list, a greyed-out button, a questionnaire that does not appear, a campaign with nobody to summon, a screen refused: this page gives, for each case, what you see, why, and what to do.

What you seeWhyWhat to do
An empty drop-down list (Attachment, Position, Grouped under…)The step that fills it has not been doneFirst create the structures (step 1), the positions (step 2), the skills (step 3)
A greyed-out button (Add, Declare, Require…)A mandatory field is emptyFill in the first field of the form (often the name, or the choice of a person from the list)
“This screen is not open to you”Your role does not include this right, or the screen is not part of your planAsk the space administrator for the role (Accounts & rights)
“Your account isn't linked to a record yet” in My spaceYour account is not linked to any person in the workforceEmployee record › Link an existing account (step 2)
The “Who do you call?” questionnaire does not appear for an employeeThey have no task assignedAssign their tasks to them (step 4)
Nobody to summon in a campaignNo knowledge item is orange or red in this scope — or no mastery level has been declaredThis is often good news; otherwise, declare the holders (step 5)
“no questions yet” in the previewNo validated question for this knowledge itemQuestion workshop (step 9)
The system status stays orangeOne of the seven lines is not filled inThe end-of-setup table tells you where to go
A connector fails the checkAccess, address or secretThe message tells you which one; see case 9
You see hundreds of people you do not knowYou are on the demo dataReset in blank mode (step 0)
Reporting a problem, with the screen. The 📎 button at the bottom right of every screen opens a report that attaches what you are seeing. You receive a tracking number and are notified of the reply.
To go further. Every screen is described in detail in the KM's step-by-step guide and in the Administration section of this documentation. This guide is the shortest route through them, on a blank space, all the way to day-to-day running.
It is almost never a breakdown. An empty list means a previous step is still to be done; the table on this page says which one, screen by screen, and the report button attaches what you are seeing. The trial lasts 14 days, with no card. Start a free 14-day trial (no card needed) or request a demo.

Frequently asked questions

Why is a drop-down list empty?

Because the step that fills it has not been done: create the structures first, then the positions, then the skills. It is never a breakdown.

Why is an add button greyed out?

Because a mandatory field is empty — often the name, or the choice of a person from the list.

Why do I see hundreds of people I do not know?

Because you are still on the demonstration data. Reset the workspace in blank mode.
